Bring PoC Zine Project to ZFH 2015!

Donation protected

Zine Fest Houston has invited POC Zine Project to our fest this year, and we couldn't be more excited! As many of y'all know, we operate on a limited budget and can use all the support we can get from our community to bring them out from New Orleans to Houston!

POC Zine Project’s mission is to make ALL zines by POC (People of Color) easy to find, distribute and share. They are an experiment in activism and community through materiality. This year's POCZP members include founder Daniela Capistrano, New Orleans community organizer & accountability speaker Tracey Brown, and disability activist Ashley Volion. We are committed to supporting them in creating a space at Houston Zine Fest to explore the intersection of accessibility, accountability and materiality.

POCZP last came through Houston on the 2013 Race Riot Tour to create a space for radical people of color to connect over zines as a medium. Incidentally, 2013 POCZP tour member Anna Vo has also been involved in Girls Rock Camp Houston, an empowering rock band summer camp for young women!

Having POC Zine Project come to Houston was a spectacular experience and we're excited to try and bring the organization to Houston Zine Fest in 2015. Unlike a traditional distro, POCZP doesn't publish zines, it signal-boosts works that are already created in order to make the community of zinesters of color visible and in conversation with each other, all while producing events nationwide since 2010. It is an enormous and exciting project, and we can't wait to feature them at Zine Fest!

Zine Fest Houston is a local non-profit organization and an annual event dedicated to promoting zines, mini-comics, and other forms of small press, alternative, underground DIY media and art. It is also a grassroots attempt to build the local zine, DIY, and alternative media scenes and form networks with media creators in other areas. The goal of the event is for attendees to discover new zines and be inspired to create their own DIY art and media projects.

Zine Fest Houston will take place 2-8pm on October 17, 2015 at The Printing Museum, 1324 W Clay
