Help Us To Help Wobbly Joe

In rescue we see a lot of things that simply break our hearts and make us shake our heads at the lack of concern by the owners.
Joe was owner surrendered to us late on Sunday night. We were told he’s been bleeding from the ear for a while, and is dying.
What’s really happening is that Joe is suffering from the most unbearable pain imaginable and it’s caused him to have a head tilt, he can’t stand on his feet too well as he’s got the wobbles, and he’s bleeding from one ear. No … bleeding from the ear isn’t normal at all, and requires a vet. We contacted our local vet, and spoke with her as to what could be done.
Monday morning at 7.30am Joe is now with one of our vets undergoing pain relief, x-rays, blood tests. It’s discovered that he has a Nasopharyngeal Polyp – which are often referred to as ear polyps which is rather misleading. Yes they do affect the ears, but also the throat and nasal passages … about 50 / 50. The polyp is so large, that it’s pushing his bone structure out of the way to make room for itself. It’s mostly likely already perforated his ear drum, which is causing the bleeding, head tilt and balance issues. As it’s so painful to work his jaw muscles now, he’s not been eating well either, he is very underweight under the floof and his coat dull and coarse .
I cannot even begin to fathom the pain and suffering this cat has gone through during the last 18 months with so little ineffective treatment far too late.
As Joe was dropped to us with a bag of medication, leading us to contact previous vet to try and get some history , and it would appear the bleeding and balance issues were noted well over 18 months ago but who knows how long prior , but due to financial constraints, Joe has been left untreated till recently. Pull surgery is where they grab the polyp and literally pull it out – and Joe has this done a few months ago, but has had no follow up checks. This form of removal is effective most cases. But not Joe’s. They left a portion behind and it’s grown out of control very, very quickly and causing him incredible pain .
Today Joe made his way to be examined by a specialist at BVSC who says that surgery is definitely required . He has an 80% chance of recovery – polyp being removed completely, head tilt goes back to normal, balance is regained or this is the hope as sometimes when its been this length of time without intervention the balance and head tilt can remain as permanent .
Joe has been booked in for surgery next week and we truly need your help as specialist vets do not do accounts so we need the funds up front which we currently do not have during peak kitten season plus two large emergency vet bills in the last two weeks.
