Please help the Orford Family

Everyone!!  Please Help the Orford Family!!!

A sudden illness, especially a heart attack, can change your life forever, as it has done to the Orford family.  Derek had a sudden heart attack 2 months ago.  He's now home but has a long road ahead of him for recovery.

My brother-in-Law Derek is one of the most caring, loving, and generous people on the face of the earth.  He has a loving wife and 2 beautiful children that he works very hard to care and provide for.

Thankfully, Derek is making a steady recovery, but unfortunately, he will not be able to go back to work for the foreseeable future while he gains his strength back.

They need all of our help during this time of recovery.  Every little bit counts, so please find it in your heart to give to this wonderful family.  Your donations will help with their medical bills, therapy/supplies for Derek while he recovers, and will assist in the day to day needs that the family has while he is out of work.

He just recently shared his feelings on the events of his heart attack and his beautiful outlook on life:

Well, it was two months ago today that I died. What a wild two months it's been. Granted, I have no memories starting a few days before the cardiac arrest, which means I have virtually no memories from this year's Fair. And of course I was in a coma for a couple of weeks, so memories from that period aren't readily available. My time in ICU was filled with drugged induced hallucinations, most of which were terrifying at best. Even once I was moved to a regular ward the first period was unnerving and confusing. It didn't help that I still didn't know why I was in the hospital. Amy finally told me more than a month after the event. It helped to know. The last two weeks at the rehab hospital was actually quite good. I had set myself the goal of being home for Amy's birthday, and I managed to pull that off. The only setback during the rehab stay was the last Friday, when my heart decided to get all wonky again, which meant a trip back to Centenary Hospital for monitoring. I really want to thank Al and Simone, the paramedics who took me in that day and helped me maintain a certain level of confidence and calm.

It will be several months before I'm able to work again. The time in the coma meant I lost a considerable amount of weight, and lets face it, I was pretty skinny to begin with. So it's going to take time to rebuild the body, and regain a fair portion of my strength. It's also going to take quite awhile to deal with the psychological trauma of it all. But I've got tissues, and have no problem just sitting down and letting myself cry for a time. Crying does help.

I want to thanks those that kept me in their thoughts and prayers. I want to thank my friends who reached out and have offered to help. I want to thank the team of surgeons and nurses who brought me back to life. I want to thank the physio and occupational therapists who worked with me to allow me to come home. I want to thank my children for being so calm and helpful through all of this. But mostly I want to thank my wife Amy, who saved my life, and inspired me to live.

Derek's band mates, who gave him the nickname Aardy, are also putting on a musical benefit for him, AARDYSTOCK, at The Dakota Tavern at 249 Ossington Ave, Toronto CA,  on Dec 28th, 7 - 9pm.  If you are able to make it, you will enjoy amazing musicians and support Derek all at the same time.

Yet again, please help this wonderful family.  Any and all amounts will go a long way to helping with Derek's recovery.  Thank you all from the bottom of our hearts!!
