Please Help my Mom & Dad

Four and half years ago, it was decided it was time for my Dad to go to a care facility. Then a few months later, it was determined that my Mom needed to be in a care facility. Both of my parents have dementia and a few months after my Mom went to a care facility she was diagnosed with Parkinson's. The Parkinson's diagnosis explained the gradual changes we saw in Mom over the years.

I had moved my mom a few times. Trying to find the right facility for her. I finally decided the care facility my Dad was in, was the best choice for Mom. They are in separate wings. Dad doesn't remember her and Mom doesn't want to see him. It would be very agitating for both of them if they did see each other.

Two years ago, the facility applied to be a facility that would accept medicaid. Then a year ago, the Corporation changed their mind. No money left to move and start over with private pay, the facility said there would be a discount. I still haven't seen this.

Corporate knew I was applying for VA pension. My Dad served through the Army in the Korean war. It's a long process of paperwork. The care bills are really getting big. It's a very small amount I am able to provide through my Dad's income for both parents. There will be back pay from the VA, but Corporate is getting nervous because what we owe is so large now. I'm hoping with donations, it will help enough until the VA pension comes through.

I retired some years ago and never got the part-time job I was going to do. So only in small ways I have been able to help. My mom just needed some new hearing aids. My parents don't have money for this. I put hearing aids on my charge card. I'll have to make monthly payments. I've always been there for my parents. Doctor's appointments, emergency room visits, shopping, laundry, etc. I see them almost every day.

My Dad has been on hospice since February. I check on him and assist him when needed at meals. My Mom is getting physical and occupational therapy. I'm there for every therapy appointment, so I can learn and then walk and exercise with her.

Any assistance you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Nov 16th, I met with Regional Accountant because Regional Director left the company. I asked how come I don't see the discounts we were told we would get. I was told there is no discount when the VA or Medicaid is involved. This facility does not accept Medicaid. When the VA comes through, I was told it would be about $1600.00 a month. It costs over $10,000 a month for my parents. I had been told in February by the Regional Director it was okay to pay just $2,000 each until the VA came through. I met with the Interim Director on Dec 6th. She said the company had been patient enough. She told me a few places that accept Medicaid. Well, some of course want private pay for a year and a half or two years. We're out of savings and can't do that. A facility related to the facility my parents are in, I was under the impression from the Interim Director that it would accept Medicaid right away. Yesterday, I was told the Interim Director expected private pay first. All of Dad's income, over $4,000.00 to support Mom in this facility. Then nothing for Dad. The Rehab/Nursing Home that would accept Medicaid right away said Dad needs to be Medicaid approved first. I just submitted the Medicaid application and it takes 45 days. The Interim Director also gave me a 30 day move out letter and I'm supposed to have my parents out by Jan 4th. Where? It's still going to be a couple more months before the VA comes through. There will still be an outstanding balance that I can't pay. I'm on a limited retirement income. The outstanding balance is about $50,000.00 Please help me. Any donation will be appreciated. I will post a copy of the check so you can see it is going to the facility, too. Ask questions and I will reply.

Corporate wanted me to ask the VA how soon income would be coming in? I called the 1-800#. An employee sent via e-mail a form to disclose personal information to a third party. Received the form and sent in via fax yesterday morning. Yes, I already do have authorization to sign forms for my Dad. Now to be able to ask questions via the 1-800# I needed to fill out the third party form. I will call daily to see if this form is in the system. In the meantime, I do have more VA forms to fill out for Dad to receive a pension to help my Mom.
