Please Help Me Attend Jeffs Hearing

Donation protected
My name is Lori Howard. For the past five years, I have dedicated my life to advocating for Jeff Havard. Jeff sits wrongfully convicted on death row in Mississippi . The charges against Jeff are disturbing to hear, but it is far more disturbing to know that those charges are 100% false.  Jeff was convicted of the sexual assault and murder of 6 month old Chloe Britt. New expert evidence shows that Chloe’s death was a tragic accident, not a murder. The state of Mississippi wants to take Jeff’s life for a crime that never happened.

Thankfully, after nearly 14 years, Jeff was finally granted an evidentiary hearing last May. Jeff’s hearing is set to take place in August of this year in Mississippi. Knowing that Jeff will have the chance to prove his innocence is a relief, but the fight is far from over.

Jeff has always had the full support of his family. From the beginning, Jeff’s grandparents helped him by taking care of things outside of the prison walls. They also provided much needed emotional support. Unfortunately, Jeff’s grandfather passed away in 2015, and his grandmother is not able to attend to Jeff’s needs as she did for many years. Time takes its toll on all of us.

I have become very close to Jeff. We talk regularly and I do everything in my power to be there for him emotionally. My goal has been to provide another source of support to help Jeff cope with his ongoing struggles.

During our conversations, Jeff often stresses to me how important it is to him that I attend his evidentiary hearing. He battles anxiety on a daily basis, and even though he is eager to have the chance to prove his innocence, the hearing will be very stressful for him. He has already been wronged by the courts. He now relies on the same system of justice to correct their mistake.

I literally saved my pennies to have enough money to make the trip from Wisconsin to Mississippi in August. I will not bore you with all of the details of my personal life, as I know everyone has their own burdens. For the sake of this gofundme page, I will say that I am a single income "parent." I have  had sole custody of my  one year old granddaughter since she was two days old, so saving the money to attend Jeff’s hearing was a challenge. But somehow I was able to get it done, and I was looking forward to being there for Jeff.

Unfortunately, I recently had a traumatic event in my life which really shook me. I was robbed while going to the bank to make a deposit. I have pressed charges, but unfortunately, my money has not been recovered.

I was so sad to tell Jeff that I would no longer be able to attend his hearing, as I would not have time to recover my losses. Jeff was devastated. After several days, Jeff asked me if I would consider reaching out to his supporters for help. I resisted his request because I felt uncomfortable asking for money for myself. All of our fundraisers to date have been set up to collect funds for Jeff’s prison canteen.

Jeff is incredibly grateful for the donations he receives. The ability to purchase basic needs helps to make his life on death row a little more bearable. Jeff understands that it is a lot to ask, but as his hearing approaches, he is hopeful that his supporters will step up once again to help him in his fight for freedom. It would ease his mind to know that I will be at his hearing to support him. For this reason, I will put my own personal embarrassment to the side and ask that you please consider making a donation to help pay for my travel expenses.

Thank you to everyone who supports Jeff Havard. Your support is greatly appreciated.
