Help for Dan and his family

This fund is for Daniel Robles, my best friend, my husband and my hero. He’s the most active person I know, he usually has a lot of energy and wants to make the most of every day, always up for anything. He loves hiking, riding his bike, playing with our dog Valley. Anyone that knows him knows how kind, grateful, selfless and sweet he is.
I am Gabriela, his wife, and I will try to explain what has been going on these past few months.
Daniel started having horrible headaches more than three months ago, no doctor could find a specific reason for them. During this time he had over ten ER visits and imaging done where nothing abnormal could be seen. The headache and symptoms that went with it just kept getting worse.
Starting mid August he became completely unable to do things on his own, even the most basic stuff like keeping his balance, eating or getting out of bed.
On September 13th he had one more CT scan, the results came in and his neurologist called to rush him to the ER, later that day he was admitted into the hospitals ICU. He was building up fluid in his head.
On September 16th he needed to go into surgery to put a shunt that would drain the fluid to his stomach, and still no known reason why was this all happening.
He used up his vacation and sick time from work during these three months. Luckily I am still able to work full time at eight months pregnant, but will need to go on unpaid maternity leave very soon.
Right now he’s staying at a rehabilitation facility trying to get back to how he was before. The condition has left him with difficulty to walk, pain all over his body, vision impairment and other symptoms that the doctors said hopefully will go away with time.
No one knows how long it will be until he’s rehabilitated and able to go back to work if he does. This will leave us with all the medical debt and very little income to pay for it and all the other bills we get every month. All of this while having to take care of a baby that will be born with at least one medical condition.

Este fondo es para Daniel Robles: mi mejor amigo, mi esposo y mi héroe. El es la persona más activa que conozco, normalmente está lleno de energía y ganas de aprovechar cada día al máximo, siempre de humor para hacer algo. Le encanta ir de excursión, montar bicicleta y jugar con nuestra perrita Valley. Cualquiera que lo conoce sabe lo bondadoso, agradecido, desinteresado y tierno que es.
Yo soy su esposa, Gabriela. En esta página intentaré explicar lo que ha estado pasando los últimos meses.
Dan comenzó a tener dolores de cabeza debilitantes hace como tres meses, ningún doctor podía encontrar una razón para su dolor. Después de más de diez visitas por emergencia y muchas tomografías de su cabeza, no se podía encontrar nada anormal. Pero el dolor iba poniéndose cada vez más intenso.
Desde mediados de agosto, ya era imposible para él hacer las cosas más cotidianas como comer por si solo, mantener el equilibrio o levantarse de la cama.
El 13 de septiembre le hicieron una tomografía más y cuando llegaron sus resultados su doctor le indicó ir a emergencias de inmediato. Ese mismo día fue internado en la unidad de cuidados intensivos del hospital porque estaba reteniendo fluidos en su cabeza.
El 16 de septiembre lo operaron para ponerle una válvula que ayude a drenar el líquido hacia su estómago. Aún ningún doctor encuentra una explicación para la hidrocefalia, solo algunas teorías.
Durante estos tres meses Dan agotó sus horas acumuladas para enfermedad y sus tiempo de vacaciones. Por suerte, yo aún puedo trabajar teniendo ocho meses de embarazo. Pero pronto tendré que tomar mi licencia de maternidad no remunerada para cuidar a nuestra hija.
En este momento, Dan está internado en un centro de rehabilitación intentando regresar al estado físico y mental en que estaba antes de todo esto. Su condición lo ha dejado con dificultad para caminar, dolor en todo su cuerpo, problemas con la visión y otros síntomas que los doctores esperan que se corrijan lentamente.
Nadie sabe cuanto tiempo tomará su recuperación ni cuando podrá volver a trabajar, si es que lo hace. Esto nos dejará con todas las deudas de los hospitales y muy pocos ingresos para pagar por ellas, más las cuentas que nos llegan cada mes. Todo esto mientras tenemos que criar a un bebé que nacerá con al menos una condición médica.
Por favor ayúdenos y recen por nuestra familia en este momento tan difícil. Que Dios los bendiga y muchas gracias.
