Los Angeles Special Needs School Fundraiser
Why are we raising money?

We are doing our part to raise awareness and funding for the UCLA Intervention Program . Since its inception 50+ years ago, this program has provided thousands of children with learning or developmental disabilities the opportunity to learn, grow, and develop in a safe, loving, and nurturing environment.  The work that the school does is, in our humble opinion, nothing short of miraculous . The staff consists of some of the most talented, loving, compassionate, amazing people we have ever come across. Each child receives the attention he or she needs, to address any areas of concerns as well as challenges that help develop their areas of strength as well.  While the program truly sets the standard when it comes to the work they do, and the love in which they do it with, it remains grossly underfunded and needs our help! We have set a goal of $50,000 to help the school buy updated materials, supplies, and new equipment that is vital to the children’s continued development.  The UCLA Intervention Program is a designated 501c non-profit organization, and ALL contributions are 100% tax deductible.

Why am I involved?
In July of 2011 my daughter, Ellie was born. She was beautiful, happy, and seemingly without complication. As Ellie began to grow, we began to notice that she was not meeting certain developmental milestones, and started to become concerned. Ellie was eventually diagnosed with Dup15Q, which was causing severe developmental delay, among other things. Attending the UCLA Intervention Program  changed Ellie’s life, and dramatically improved our outlook on what was possible for her.  Being the parent of a special needs child can be absolutely terrifying, and often times leaves you with many more questions than you can find answers to.  Finding and attending the UCLA IP changed everything for my family.  Not only did they help my daughter in ways that I can’t begin to describe, they were a tremendous resource for us as well.  The work they do truly extends beyond the classroom, providing us with answers, resources, and comfort as we navigated through a very emotional time in our lives.  When I heard that the program was grossly underfunded, I was compelled to do something that could change that.  I will be forever indebted to them for the role they played in my daughter’s life and development.  I promised myself I’d doing everything in my power to ensure its continued success, so future generations of children and families will benefit from this program that literally changes lives.

What is the UCLA Intervention Program?
The UCLA Intervention Program is a center-based early intervention program providing educational, diagnostic, and therapeutic services to children 0-3 years old with a range of developmental risks and disabilities.  The school was founded in the 1950s, and has been in the same location since the 1960s. The UCLA Intervention Program encourages the individual development for each student, and provides social interactions within a classroom environment. Each staff is trained and skilled at viewing each child within the context of typical child development, having the same basic needs as all children, as well as some that are uniquely his or her own. Since its inception 50+ years ago, this program has provided thousands of children in the LA area the opportunity to learn, grow, and develop in a safe, loving, and nurturing environment.
