Playground for Senase

Hello our family and friends!
This past couple of days, 34 Semester at Sea students and 3 staff members were able to travel to Senase, Ghana which is home to our friend Fredrick. Fredrick is the founder of Semanhyiya American School (SAS). He shared with us his inspiring story of how he grew up in this community, attended school in England the USA (University of San Diego), and even went on the Summer 2014 Voyage of Semester at Sea.
Since admission to SAS is a lottery system not all of the Senase community's students can attend this school. That leaves the rest of the children watching the others enjoy their time at SAS. We have decided to build a playground in the village of Senase to include all of the children, not just the 10% who are fortunate enough to attend SAS.
Although we have only shared with you this brief insight into our experiences, we hope that you can all see the importance and impact on building the first playground in this community. We have tried to put into words the feelings of love we shared through this trip but nothing can truly capture the community we were so fortunate to be welcomed into. Any contribution can help in giving these children, we love, a space to grow outside of the classroom.
