Founded in 2005, the originally named Play Inc. Community Theatre grew out of the Summer Youth Theatre program offered through Community Education in Cambridge Minnesota.

28329438_1520892757.82_funddescription.jNow in 2018, the newly titled Play Inc Arts strives to provide a varied artistic outlet for the Minnesota communities of Cambridge, Isanti, and surrounding areas.
28329438_1520892785.1073_funddescriptionPlay Inc Arts has been fortunate that the Cambridge High school has a large Performing Arts Center that facilitates the largest Play Inc Arts productions, but medium and smaller performances require a smaller and less expensive venue.

Play Inc. Arts has recently been in communications with the City of Cambridge about the possibility of acquiring the former Ben Franklin building. The City really likes the idea of an entertainment venue on downtown Main Street. It would help to revitalize the downtown area. The building is for sale and well...we think we should buy it, and they would like us to have it.

The building is much larger than our currently location. The Main Street facade and front entrance are very appealing and would give us a bigger presence in town. It will make us known to the public and give us the perfect opportunity to advertise upcoming shows to the automobile and foot traffic passing by out front. There is also ample parking behind the building to accommodate show audiences. The presence of People's Cafe and Pizza Pub directly across the street means that a “Dinner and Show” night will be effortless without the need to drive from one place to another.

The purchase price is $120,000, and we estimate another $100,000 to $200,000 in renovations to make it a truly great facility. We see this as an opportunity. Our goal is $300,000. We are also open to obtaining business sponsorships, as well as donations of materials, work time, or expertise from contractors and professionals in other relevant fields. This will help reduce overall costs and make our goal more attainable. Contact us at playinconline.org  for details.

Play Inc Arts is a community based artistic outlet which always tries to make its shows and productions affordable. As a result, it's coffers are incapable of funding such a large undertaking. We hope that by finding the funds for this project through the gofundme site, we can continue to give arts back to the community affordably, without the burden and expense of a financial mortgage and/or bank debt.

There is so much to tell!

This GoFundMe page was started a little over four months ago with the dream of funding a new playhouse for Play Inc. Arts. We envisioned a beautiful building with lots of space for rehearsals and costume storage, as well as a large seating and stage area for audiences and performances. That vision is still our dream. Now, an opportunity has come along that may help us get closer to that goal.

It will make us known to the public and give us the perfect opportunity to advertise upcoming shows to the automobile and foot traffic passing by out front. The purchase price is $120,000, and we estimate another $100,000 to $200,000 in renovations to make it a truly great facility. Play Inc. Arts sees this as an opportunity that is too good to pass up.

With that in mind, we have lowered our funding goal by a factor of ten - to only $300,000. This amount would purchase the building and cover most, if not all, renovation expenses. We are also open to obtaining business sponsorships, as well as donations of materials, work time, or expertise from contractors and professionals in other relevant fields. Contact us at playinconline.org for details.

It's been a few weeks since this project was started. Donations have started coming in and it is wonderful to see them, but we are just beginning to scratch the surface.
Many people enjoy the arts, and Play Inc. is in the business of bringing that enjoyment to people. It is our goal to do much, much more, but we need your help.
Not having a venue suited for smaller audiences limits the scope and quality of the shows we want to bring to you, our audience. Our founder, Aaron Knutsvig, envisions a facility which will fulfill that need. But the construction of a new performing arts building will require funds which are currently out of reach. That's why this Gofundme page was created.
If everyone who has ever been in a Play Inc. performance or even attended a show, were to contribute the typical participation fee or ticket price, it would make a huge difference!
But even if you are unable to contribute, by just sharing our campaign with those you know we might reach many others who may not yet know about Aaron's dream of our own performance center.
Let's keep that dream alive. Consider how you might help today.
