Hello, My name is Claudia L. This fundraiser is about my friend Patty V. who is currently suffering from a rare cancer. She is a 46-year old single mom and she has been diagnosed with nasopharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma. This is a rare type of cancer in the head and neck category. Her cancer has metastasized to her liver and her lungs. She also suffers from nausea, constantly experiences a lot of fatigue and pain.
Her insurance has notified her that as of September, she has to pay an even higher portion or her medical expenses, and to make things worse, she was notified of a reduction on her medical coverage. This means, not only she has to go through this painful process of chemotherapy and treatments, but now she has to struggle to come up with funds to pay for these higher medical expenses as well.
I have known Patty to be independent and very hard working woman. It is unfortunate to see her sitting at home gazing outside. All she wants to be a part of the outside world, just like the rest of us enjoy life. She lives in Tucson Arizona, which is a city literally in the desert with extreme temperatures. Thus, she has to avoid the sun and this limits her from even getting groceries from the supermarket. She doesn’t have a car. Her grocery shopping has become very difficult since she has to take the bus or find places within walking distance under the Arizona heat. Even with limited walking causes her back to hurt and her legs to pain, limiting her ability to even carry bags with groceries. Unfortunately, she doesn’t qualify for full patient assistance due to her age and her rare cancer type.

She desperately needs our help! She is looking to buy a small used car so that she can take herself to get groceries, medicines and her scheduled doctor visits. Plus, as of September, she needs to pay even higher medical bills. She currently receives a monthly check to help pay some medical treatment but it’s not enough. In fact, most of what she gets is used on paying rent and utilities, barely leaving anything for her to buy food or groceries.
You can imagine how difficult it is to not have your life back and to depend on others for help. I hope that kind hearts like you can help me get a piece of her life back. I greatly appreciate all your time and help to make Patty’s fight much easier!
