Pias Surgery

Donation protected
For those of you who know me, you probably know my puppy Pia. My pup is the absolute world to me, and is my heart outside my body. This has happened suddenly, with no warning, and I have been an absolute mess since.

On Thursday June 8th, I knew something was wrong when Pia jumped up on our living room table and started to yelp in pain. Kevin (my boyfriend) and I, immediately knew something was wrong and in less than a minute, we were out the door on the way to the emergency vet clinic. Originally, we had thought it was something she swallowed. X-rays showed there was something large in her stomach, and the plan was for her to have surgery that night to take it out. I received a call around 5am saying the x-ray was all clear, yet Pia was still showing signs of pain and discomfort. Friday morning, I went to go visit her and she was still clearly uncomfortable. We took her outside to pee, and I noticed that she couldn't use her back legs. Pia was dragging her legs as she tried to move forward. This is when the vet recognized it had to do something with her discs in her spine. As the pain meds were wearing off, she was yelping in so much pain. It was decided we should go to Guelph to their emergency care there. It was in the Guelph clinic that they confirmed there was something wrong with her discs, and surgery needed to be done. Kevin and I scrambled the last of our money together as fast as we could to put in a deposit to get her into surgery.

Pia current status is that she's out of surgery, but it looks worse than they thought. The disc not only misaligned but was hitting her spinal cord, which is why she was in such severe pain. Her spinal cord is inflamed and now we wait to see if she'll be able to walk again, or what her prognosis could be. She does have an 85-95% chance of walking, which is what we are holding onto.

Again, for those who know me, I am a very private person. But theres nothing I won't do for my puppy Pia. And as much as I am private, Kevin and I are struggling financially with her vet bills. Her first emergency visit in London costed us $1300. Her surgery in Guelph is estimated from $5000-$7000. We've used the last of our money to pay the initial deposit for the surgery, which was $2900. So together Kevin and I have emptied our small savings and checking account spending already $4200 on our baby. We still need to pay the rest of her surgery with the minimum of us owing another $2100- $4100. Were unsure of where we're getting the rest money, as we have nothing left, but we're trying to find a way.

We will be forever be grateful of any donations. Any money raised on here, will go straight to her vet bills. The smallest amount makes the strain on us a little lighter. Through the waterfalls of our tears and our heartbreak, we're willing to do anything for our pup. She's not just a dog, but she's family, she's my baby.
