Help Maine’s Social Justice Choir

Phoenix Chorale Portland, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit group established in 2014 and dedicated to spreading awareness of social justice issues and inspiring positive changes in Maine. Because 100% of our concert proceeds go to our non-profit partner organizations, we are currently raising funds to support our new season of singing: a concert for the Good Shepherd Food Bank in November 2016, support for the MLK celebration in January 2017, and our spring concert on racial justice. This includes building our music library, compensating our artistic staff (director, accompanist), and paying for our rehearsal location.

We also have the following activities in the works for our new season:
Portland Street Choir – We are starting a new choir dedicated to participating in public demonstrations that are conducted in support of social causes. This includes marches, vigils, parades, and other community-building events.
Partners in Racial Justice – We will partner with a local organization based on our thematic focus of racial justice, and determine with these partners the best means of furthering their missions. In the past, this has been a spring fundraising concert.
Community Outreach – We plan to have discussions with local groups and individuals about how the Chorale might use song to make connections with community members about racial justice. This may include participating informally in musical events, assisting with youth or community music education, facilitating workshops to learn songs from various cultures/countries, or volunteering in specific activities.
