Update May 24. 2017:

Great News!

I recently won the U.S Senior Open Regional Qualifier at the Indiana Country Club, Indiana, PA. With this win, I have been invited to join 155 of the world’s best senior golfers, to compete at the 2017 U.S. Senior Open.

The tournament begins 29 June 17, at the Salem Country Club, in Peabody, Mass.  I will be heading out to the tournament with a small volunteer support team on the 25th.

As much as I am greatful for the opportunity to compete in the Senior Open, the tournament comes with an unexpected cost in transportation, meals and lodging that I estimate to be in the range of $2,500.

Accordingly, I have increased my fundraising goal to $7,500, and will commit all donations made in the month of June to offsetting the cost of the U.S. Senior Open.

Thanks to the many who have contributed so far, and to those who shared my fundraiser on FaceBook.

With your continued support through the month of June, I hope to do you proud.

John

**************************************************

My name is John Kelly from Ottawa, Ont.

After 25 years of service in the Canadian Forces (Air Force, Signals) and playing golf since I was 9 years old I decided to pursue a second career with the CPGA.  I was a member of the Canadian National Golf Military team (CISM) from 1990 until I retired in 2005. I joined the Hylands Golf Club Pro Shop team in 2007 and enrolled in the CPGA Apprenticeship Program working  my way towards my Class A certification. Although my playing career has been longer than my shorter teaching career the enthusiasm that I put towards helping people with their games is just as rewarding. Before and after joining the CPGA as an apprentice I have participated in many amateur and professional events. It’s been a dream of mine since I turned pro is to play professional golf, and now that I have reached my fifties the goal is to play in Champions Tour events. In the last couple of years I have participated in the Q-School events held in Florida, Nevada and Texas as well as several pre-qualifiers in Montreal, New Jersey, New York, Boca Raton, Naples (Florida).

My goal for 2017 is to raise $5K to participate in the Champions Tour’s Qualifiers at the US Senior Open (Maine), Dick’s Sporting Goods Open (New York) but to get support mostly to enter the Champions Tour qualifying school at the Houston, Texas location.(November)For those who may not understand here's how it works at the q-school. All participants play all 4 rounds at different sites(Florida,Texas, and California), then they take 1/3 of the players from each site to go to the finals which are another four rounds. These final four rounds are usually in Florida or Arizona, so the funds I am trying to raise would pay for entry fees, hotel costs and plane fares. Any monies I raise above and beyond  what I am aiming for will be used towards the expenses needed for the finals.  Check out www.gofundme.com to get a better understanding.
Any assistance is greatly appreciated. Thank You
