PET FOOD BANK ROBBED

Donation protected
After our local pet food bank got robbed of all their pet food, dog coats, treats and toys on October 12th, 2016, I decided to do something to try and  help them out.

I have volunteered for the Victoria Pet Food Bank and Feral Cat Rehabilitation Society, aka SAFARS, distributing food and fostering the animals they rescue for almost three years now.  I have been a witness to the hard work they do and cannot stand by and do nothing about it.

The food kept at their shed was the only reserve they had to feed the animals of those who have had the misfortune to lose everything in life. The dogs and cats the pet food bank feeds cannot get through the winter without their help.  This program is a rare treasure in our Sooke and Greater Victoria Community.  I am begging everybody to give them a hand.  It does not matter if it is only $5 that you can contribute to help them out. The most important thing is for all of us to come together as a society to help the group in which so many families and pets depend on.

I know the sacrifice that SAFARS makes day after day to collect food when the majority of the supermarkets seem to prefer to throw it out rather than to donating it for the poor.  Margarita, their president and founder, is always writing and phoning companies begging for food.  Every weekend she does pet food drives, and collects bottles daily to recycle for money for gas to do their deliveries.

The Victoria Pet Food Bank distributes 19,047.00 lbs/ 8,640 kg of dog kibble and 10,317.60 lbs / 4.680 kg of cat kibble plus cans, treats, bowls, collars, leashes, beds, and large winter coats for dogs a year to emergency shelters and door to door to more than thirty disabled or very poor families.

They also feed large colonies of abandoned cats in bushes and trails which without them they will die from starvation.  They build and provide shelters for these cats to keep them from the rain, wind and cold and when able to they spay or neuter them and return them to their colony.

PLEASE, anything you can give will  help.

On Saturday 29th, we will be having our second Halloween Dog Parties to help us raise funds to buy food, to move our shed and to buy a used van to do our deliveries.  We hope you can bring your pooch to the party. We are so excited. Our first party last Satuday was a success, you can watch the video on this page.

Our next party is at Clover Point Park, in Dallas Rd, in Victoria, from 11 am to 3 pm.
