Pepe's Surgery Fund

$2,556 of $2,500 goal

Raised by 59 people in 6 months

Pepe is the light of my life, a classic dog saves human story. I adopted him a year ago from an animal shelter, he was an unhealthy 50 pounds with all his bones showing, and I was an wreck after a breakup and a car accident. I saw his face, asked if he wanted to be my dog, and he wagged his tail and licked my face. I promised that I would protect him. If you've met me or know me in some capacity, you've met or heard (a lot) about Pepe. He's an 8.5 year old Cattle Dog/Staffordshire Terrier/Dane mix who likes getting his belly rubbed after eating, hogging the bed, and hoarding his Lambchop stuffed animals. He's also been my near constant companion for the last year – he is a gallery dog, protector dog, running and adventuring partner, and of course my space heater when I'm cold and need some snugs.

About five months ago, a red spot showed up on his stomach. This spot recently turned into an open wound and appears to be a hemangiosarcoma. Last night we had to take him to the ER because he wouldn't stop bleeding, and I was told he needs surgery, a biopsy, x-rays, and a consultation with an oncologist to confirm and get him stable. This doesn't come cheap, and he needs surgery within the next two days so that we can see what we can do. He's young and otherwise healthy, and I can't imagine a world without him.

If you've ever met Pepe, please consider donating. I can't even begin to convey how greatful I would be to keep my best friend happy and healthy.

12 hours apart, four and a half in surgery, and they've removed the mess on his belly. Pepe is home and loved and so grateful to all of you. Thank you for giving me more time with my best friend :)

Pepe is currently in surgery to remove the mass on his belly.
We got some bad news last night after his chest X-rays were looked at by several radiologists, and the cancer has metastasized in his lungs. It was almost undetectable because it is so small. We moved forward with surgery to give him the best few months that we can free of bandages and cones. Remaining funds after his surgery will be used for his aftercare, and anything after that will be donated to a charity organization that assists with veterinary medical expenses. Of course I am heartbroken beyond any words, but he will be loved and have many Lambchop toys and walks before then.
I want to thank each and every one of you for the continued support and love. Pepe would like nothing more than to give everyone some kisses when his stitches come out.

Thank you thank you thank you everyone! Pepe got his chest X-rays and blood work today (they're clear) and will be heading in to surgery tomorrow morning. They'll take a biopsy and we will know more tomorrow. I can't thank everyone enough, and Pepe would love to make out with every one of you, but for now he'll settle for hitting me with his cone

I am completely overwhelmed at the love you all have for my muffin, I am in tears at how much support we have. Thank you to everyone who has donated today! We're going to our primary vet tomorrow after a really subpar trip to a referral. Pepe is snugged up in his blanket fort and appreciates your help. Will keep everyone updated as it comes!
