Bare Hand Collective: Makers Space

$2,540 of $30,000 goal

Our modern society relies on creativity. That may sound like an overstatement, but more and more businesses and education programs are geared toward the right brained population. Our community, particularly the youth of Pensacola, is in need of a central place where they can become better creative thinkers, better entrepreneurs, better learners, and more capable makers.

Bare Hand Collective
is an interdisciplinary collaborative working space and education hub for makers, artists, musicians, designers, and the like. Our main goal is simple: to make better. We hope to create an inclusive, diverse, and collaborative environment for creatives, an accessible location for our regional community to source reliable, commissioned work for home and business, and a creative education facility for skilled trades and artisanal techniques, creative conceptual thinking, and community-driven initiatives.

Across major cities, intentional creative spaces splatter the landscapes of neighborhoods, downtowns, and recreational public land. These communities aim to foster creativity, education, entrepreneurial thinking, collaboration, and the forging of new paths in business and industry.

While the regional maker population is ever-improving, local creatives lack a dedicated space to ideate, create, collaborate, and learn. Enter: creative placemaking.

We serve our community with things we make - goods, ideas, lessons, relationships, and networks. By providing an equipped physical space geared toward entrepreneurial thinking and collaboration, we hope to empower the creative circle to create and discover new ideas for themselves through networking and educational programming. Our goal with youth programming is to supply our young community with practical skills before they reach vocational school age. We will teach things like basic hand building, introductory coding skills, personal brand development, and collaborative projects where they can learn to work together to improve our community.

We're already underway! Knowing there's a good bit of work to do, we've defined our needs as follows:

-Building improvements and structural redesign to create design offices, an open letterpress studio and private artist studios
-Necessary machinery and equipment for the design offices, print shop, wood shop, and studios
-Materials and resources to add makers, teach classes and host workshops for the public

Of course we want this space as a place for us to create, but more importantly, collaborate with and empower our local creatives and educate our youth to be better prepared for their futures.
