Penny's Special Health Needs Fund

Donation protected

Penelope the cat needs a CAT Scan! Penny's neurologist is trying to help us take care of Penny's many symptoms, which continue to worsen over time.  Neurological imaging (such as an MRI or CAT scan) will help us help Penny.

Penny has a patchwork past. She was first rescued from a hoarding situation, lovingly fostered and then successfully adopted by a great family. Sadly, Penny was recently returned by her owners after three years because of her complicated health issues described more below. Please help us solve Penny's problems so her next stop is the last stop after over six years of shuffling around.

Any funds that are donated in excess of Penny's needs will be used to help other cats in need.

Penelope was rescued from a hoarding situation three years ago. At the time we believed Penelope had CH, but that was not clinically confirmed. CH (Cerebellar Hypoplasia) is a non-progressive condition, that does not get worse with age. It affects the cerebellum — the part of the brain which controls fine motor skills and coordination.  Like CH cats, Penny has always had trouble walking, but we've noticed her strength, control, and other health problems have degenerated over time.

After a thorough evaluation, Penny's vet believes she may have multiple neurological abnormalities contributing to her symptoms. In order to treat her, she needs neural imaging and some other specialized tests to figure out what might be causing some or all of her symptoms.

For example, Penny has challenges with walking and balance. She has always been a little stumbly, but now she struggles to coordinate and effectively use her back legs at all. She also may have impaired depth perception and limited/irregular pupil response. Penny also has lots of potty problems, ranging from recurring UTIs, incontinence, and constipation. Lastly, Penny has always had asthma and likely other unresolved allergies.

Today, Penny has prescriptions and other accommodations to manage her symptoms, but identifying root cause(s) will help us better manage and treat her symptoms collectively rather than piecemeal.

Any funds that are donated in excess of Penny's needs will be used to help other cats in need!
