Peluso Family Assistance

Donation protected
Hi everyone, it is with a heavy heart that I need to create this GoFundMe account.

My sister and her husband, Phil & Katie (Luchnick) Peluso are residents of Dutchess county and have been for the majority of their lives.  They are both hard working, working 4 jobs between the two of them.  They have worked very hard in the last 12 years together to create a stable life where their 5 year old son can thrive and grow and now they are 6 months pregnant with a daughter due in March.

On December 18, 2019 Phil went to the doctor for back pain he had been struggling with. The doctors did scans and gave him an MRI and CT scan to come back and sit them down to reveal Phil has Stage 4 Lung Cancer that has spread to his bones, which ultimately shattered a spinal vertebrae which is now putting pressure directly on his spinal cord.  He will be receiving a biopsy to his lungs on December 23rd to decipher the form of cancer that is currently attacking his body. From there the team of doctors will be putting together a treatment plan.  The road to recovery is going to be long and Phil is going to be unable to work as his spinal vertebra are shattered and he will need invasive and extensive treatments for the cancer.

Things have not come easy for Phil and Katie in the past as my sister has Crohn’s Disease which is a chronic illness that has seriously damaged her digestive system.  This has hindered her from being able to work a full time job. Phil has always been her rock and dedicated to being the family bread winner.

We are asking for donations to help them pay their bills for the next 6 months so they can maintain the home they rent until their baby is born, while Phil undergoes treatment and to ease any extra stress an unstable environment may cause for their 5 year old. Their 5 year old is thriving in Pre-K after previously struggling to acclimate in the beginning, therefore keeping him in his classes to prepare for kindergarden is important for his development.  Allowing the family 6 months to finish out their lease at their current home will provide them with the stable environment they all need in order to get through Phil’s treatments and the birth of their daughter.

Katie will be continuing in her part time job, running her business from home and maintaining a stable environment for their 5 year old and Phil once he returns home. Donations will help keep their lights on, food on their table, travel to and from hospitals, treatments and a roof over their head for the next 6 months.

Any donation is welcome, as well as prayers. Katie will be updating the page as we find out more.  Our family is grateful for anything you can spare as well as emotional support in this time of struggle.

UPDATE AS OF 12/30/2019
FROM KATIE PELUSO

Hello everyone. First off I would like to start by thanking every one of you from the bottom of our hearts. Thank you for everyone who has called, texted and visited Phil. Your visits have helped him enormously. Thank you for everyone who has called texted, reached out, donated, shared, babysat, bought a meal, sent baby gifts and so on. We are blown away by the generosity. Every single act of kindness has alleviated some of our family's stress and pain during this difficult time.

I wish that this update was as positive as the outpouring of support we've received. As of today he is still in the hospital. We are being told that he is and will be permanently disabled. He has started chemo, radiation and immunotherapy which will hopefully give us the most quality time with him as possible. We are praying he will be home with us soon but discharge is contingent on pain management and physically accommodating him as he is currently unable to stand on his own. Both of which they are still working on. We are however, hopeful. We have faith that the treatments will give us precious time to make memories. New advances are made every day and there have been amazing results from the immunotherapy. We ask not only for continued prayers but positivity during the fight ahead.

In light of this devastating diagnosis we have increased the goal on our GoFundMe. As most of you know, Phil was the primary income.  I have been unable to work as I have been in constant contact with his team of doctors advocating for him and traveling back and forth to Westchester to see him. I do plan to return to work soon but I will soon be out again as the baby is due in March and I will need time to recover myself from a c-section and the fallout from my own chronic illness. We are hoping to raise enough money for our daily living expenses, medical expenses, travel and care expenses, physical accommodations for our home, and to prepare to move in July. And sadly in the future we will need to deal with arrangements. Unfortunately, Phil does not have a life insurance policy in place. We are exploring all of our options and benefits available to us but this fundraiser is critical to keeping my family above water.

Again, thank you all for everything, despite the devastating circumstances we are lifted up by the love and support given to us at this time.
