Help us continue the incredible work happening at Pelican Bay!

The Pelican Bay Volunteer Alliance, Inc. has been formed to provide funding for Hustle 2.0 (H20) which is set to kick off in May 2019.  Hustle 2.0 is a program currently being developed by Catherine Hoke which is to be a new-and-improved version of the program she developed for Defy Ventures.

In 2017, Defy Ventures (www.defyventures.org) began its program at Pelican Bay State Prison in Crescent City, CA.  It put 2 groups of men through its 6-7-month program where they were taught business courses as well as life skills training and character development.  During the course, the men developed a business idea, wrote a business plan and were required to pitch their business in a ‘Shark Tank’ styled pitch competition.  Half-way through the course and for the pitch competition/graduation event, business executives, CEO’s, etc. came from all over the US, Canada and Mexico to mentor, coach and judge the competitions.

In May 2018, Defy announced that they could no longer continue the program at Pelican Bay so a group of volunteers pooled their resources to get the 3rd class graduated (which happened in early December 2018).

At that event, Catherine announced her plans to develop a new curriculum.   Tom Williams and Dennis Meek have formed the PBVA which will contract with H20 to provide this new program to 200 men at PBSP from May 2019 until the graduation event in May 2020.

Please help us continue this incredible work!
