PEI Canada Games Rowing Ergathon

$230 of $3,400 goal

The Rowing P.E.I. training team is putting their fundraising campaign into action starting January 1, 2016.  The team – with help from a special guest captain – will be rowing the distance from Charlottetown to  Winnipeg, host city for the 2017 Canada Games.

The young rowers will be logging their time on ergs – or indoor rowing machines – to make the required number of kilometres.

3400 kilometres = $3400

3400 kilometres over 8 weeks sounds daunting.  But the P.E.I. team has some help.  Honourary captain Emily Cameron is a member of the Canadian rowing team, training in London, Ontario. Her kilometres on the erg will also count towards the total distance to Winnipeg.  Thanks Emily!

It’s going to take a lot of hours – and sweat and hard work – to row from Charlottetown to Winnipeg.  Just as it’s going to take a lot of hours and sweat and hard work to get the P.E.I. team to the Games.

The $3400 will go towards purchasing the race boats that these young athletes need to train for the Games in 2017.  Time is of the essence because they need the boats by May to start training.

We hope you will support their efforts with a pledge.

Thanks from the P.E.I. Canada Games Rowing Training Team!

OK. So it took a bit longer than we thought. And honourary captain Emily Cameron rowed half the distance. That's why we picked her. Thanks to everyone who supported our fundraiser. We learned a lot. Trained a lot. Didn't earn much money. But still love rowing. And best news of all: our new boat, the Emily Cameron, arrives on P.E.I. on Monday June 20, 2016. Thanks for being part of it. Go Team P.E.I.!

Luckily for us, the talented Emily Cameron has been logging some serious time on the erg - and in the scull in Florida, training with the national team! Here is a typical training week for Emily:
Monday March 14 - 28 km
Tuesday March 15 - 28 km
Wednesday March 16 - 32 km
Thursday March 17-20 km
Friday March 18- 32 km
Saturday March 19 - 32 km
Sunday - rest!
When we add in Emily's kilometres, we are at 2525! Past the halfway point in our ergathon.
Still some work to do before we hit the water, but we're ready for final haul.
Our Rowing P.E.I. members are invited to come out and hop on the erg this Saturday April 23rd, from 10 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. at Royalty Centre House of Sport, Room 234. Your ergs will help get us to Winnipeg.
Thanks Emily Cameron! You rock!!

Hey - we passed the 1,000 kilometre mark!
We are at 1125 kilometres and counting. It is taking us a bit longer to get to Winnipeg than we anticipated. But we're not stopping. We hope you will support our rowers and stay tuned for our big finale event.
Here is the training team at our recent fundraiser at Boston Pizza. Keep on erging!

500 kilometers and counting! Congrats to the Canada Games training team and honorary team captain Emily Cameron who have been logging lots of time on the ergs. They have now rowed 567 kilometers en route to Winnipeg. We are just a few rows away from Edmundston at 603 kilometers. Thanks to everyone who has donated. Our donations are not quite keeping pace but we're hoping for a big surge as we get closer to the finish line!
