Peace By Piece New Jersey is a 501c3 non-profit organization driven to enhance the lives of those faced with intellectual/developmental disabilities and their families. Our goal is to provide life long support and services through a community center as well as housing options that will promote lasting friendships and a superior quality of life for its precious individuals.
Funds will be used for several purposes.
-First, funding will immediately support the biweekly gatherings we are currently holding. We started a year ago with a handful of participants and that list is up to over forty at this time and still growing!
-Next, funding will be pooled towards the ultimate goal of acquiring a facility to house a more structured day program that will offer opportunities for members to learn skills, bond and experience what we often take for granted in a normal social setting.
-Funds will also be used to support the routine operating costs of the business which, although modest, are still necessary.
-The day program will be implemented as soon as a facility is secured. Funding will also come from state support programs geared towards these individuals and their disabilities.
-Finally, funding will help with the goal of creating housing opportunities that are not the traditional "group home" option that comes with many challenges. This option exists today but isnt nearly enough to handle the need.
The business is run by volunteers Jean Decker (my mom), myself and a few persons with close connections to the situation and sensitive to the need. We fully expect to expand the operation and offer paying positions as funding goals are met.
