PDSA Nicaragua Mission Trip 2017

Donation protected
Dear Friends, Family, Dentists, and Supporters,

Over the past few years, the Pre-Dental Student Association at UCF (PDSA) has been fortunate enough to travel to Nicaragua and Panama to help provide much needed dental care to underserved communities. This has only been possible due to the opportunities offered to us by all of the individuals who believe in our organization’s mission. This year, we have been given another opportunity to return to Nicaragua to continue to open eyes, spread good will, and have a significant impact in the lives of the people in this country.

PDSA will be going to Nicaragua in December 2017 to serve the Nicaraguan communities with their dental needs. Nicaragua is one of the poorest nations in Central America and has struggled in recent decades to provide adequate health care to it’s native population. The majority of the population lives in impoverished conditions, lacking daily necessities, such as adequate food and clean water supply, sufficient housing, and basic hygiene supplies for personal care. Due to the limitations of the patients medical conditions, many are unable to physically travel to dental clinics to receive appropriate care. The people of Nicaragua are not offered or supported with any form of health insurance, therefore the out-of-pocket health care delivery system poses a significant barrier to medical and dental care due to their socioeconomic status. As a whole, these circumstance pose a significant inconvenience both personally and economically for patients who seek proper medical and dental attention. In the past, PDSA members have had the privilege to attend these trips. However, due to the expenses that are associated with travelling abroad, many passionate and dedicated students were unable to afford these trips.

Our current Sergeant at Arms, Scott Block, has coordinated for PDSA to return to Nicaragua this year, and we plan to bring 25 PDSA members! While on our trip to Nicaragua, we will be assisting dental professionals to address the dental needs of the communities that are in extreme need and have no access to health care. Moreover, we plan to host events at local orphanages, where we will teach children about the importance of oral hygiene, as well as provide them with the basic supplies needed for adequate dental care.

PDSA is an organization of pre-dental students dedicated to advancing its positive impact not only throughout Central Florida, but also in the Central American countries. Our goal is to not only promote awareness of the poor conditions many of these individuals experience daily, but also to bring positive change in the lives of these individuals.

In order to make this trip possible, we ask you for your support, whether it’s by donations or sharing this page. Your contributions will directly be used for the costs of our lodging, registration, supplies, travel, and donations. Without your care and assistance, we wouldn’t be able to provide this service to the people of Nicaragua!
