I am hoping to raise money which is much needed to launch an important song I've written about domestic violence, one that I believe could make an impact in a victim's life and perhaps inspire them to seek help. Music is powerful and this song has a subtle and powerful message, one that may very well save a life. My hope is to reach this goal in the next 30 to 60 days. I am a long time singer / songwriter / musician / producer and teacher with a long track record having recorded, written and performed with many great artists. I feel blessed to have had the musical opportunities I've had. As important as my musical accomplishments are, the time I worked as a mandated reporter for The Domestic Abuse Women's Network (DAWN) in Seattle is equally as impactful. I was so inspired by the people I came in contact with in training, on the crisis line, while overseeing orientation as well as the speakers for the many fundraisers they held to raise money.
Author Tony Porter stands out. This amazing man who is the CEO of the violence prevention organization "A Call To Men" as well as an advisor for the NFL, NBA and NHL, is dedicated to helping educate men about domestic abuse (see his site on youtube or find him on Ted Talks). I personally am on a mission to make a dent in this rampant problem, a problem for virtually anyone of any sex from any background.
The money I am raising is for -
1) Making a professional video of The Best Of Me
2) Hiring a marketing team and
3) Recording a full length CD which will include this song
Proceeds from the sales of the CD's will be donated to a very worthy domestic violence organization here in Portland Oregon - Bradley Angle. This agency helps all victims - women, men, transgender. Abuse can happen to anyone of any race, age, class. Breaking free from an abusive situation is not a simple task. Statistically it takes leaving an abuser seven times before being successful (according to The National Domestic Violence Hotline).
This is not a campaign just to further my career. Your donation, again, might actually be saving a life by helping to spread this message to victims who may in turn find the strength to seek the help they need. This may sound like an overstatement or exaggeration but there are key words, there is subtle language in the lyrics that speaks to the abused. Playing this song for victims has brought the same reaction - they have heard the message loud and clear. It's my goal for all to hear this song and to either 1) as a victim, not feel so alone and perhaps be empowered or 2) as someone who has not been a victim, my hope is that they find understanding or are able to put themselves in the shoes of someone who is/has been in this situation.
Without the money to get this off the ground it could be years before I have the funds needed to accomplish what I mentioned above. PLEASE watch my gofundme video, spread the word, share this site and give generously.
