Help our friend Paul

Paul Willmott is a homeless man most BIMM students will be aware of; he sits under the arches by Passage Street over looking the river - opposite Finzel's Reach. Having recently got to know him, it became apparent that he is desperate need of a knee operation, due to artheritis and other complications. However, he cannot recieve surgery without having stable accomodation for rehabilitation, and the Doctor will not refer him without knowing that he will be able to completely rest after the surgery. A hostel would be perfect for this, and I've chosen to raise an initial £1000 to fund this (as well as food during his stay). However, a common problem many homeless people face is that they cannot aquire accomodation, and many other things, without photo ID.  Getting Paul photo ID will be a challenge as he only has his birth certificate, however it is possible. Not only will a photo ID help him get accomodation and consequently the surgery he needs, but it will also allow him to apply for jobs, hopefully resulting in a life off the streets. 

Anyone who has taken the time to get to know him, Paul is a lovely and kind man who ended up on the streets through no fault of his own. He has no addictions but is in a great deal of pain and is simply in need of surgery and a photo ID. I am raising money on his behalf as I, and many others, have been walking past him for the last year and have rarely been able to help him. This is our opportunity! Just a few pounds from every student / Lecturer at BIMM could change his life, and it is rare that we are given the opportunity to help someone so directly. Our aim is to reach this target over the next few weeks, as obviously his pain is only going to get worse.
