The night of April 3rd, 2018, a storm caused a fire that devastated Mountain Mission School, home for more than 200 at-risk kids in Virginia. Since then, Paul Davis of Greater Tri Cities has been on site to recover, reconstruct and restore. Owner Charles Skeens has donated staff time, construction expertise and now is creating this fundraising campaign to reach out to generous donors like you. Mountain Mission School

Founded in 1921, Mountain Mission serves as a home, church, and school for more than 200 at-risk girls and boys from across Appalachia and worldwide, coming out of difficult home environments. Approximately 70 percent of the students are residents of the U.S. With an annual deficit of more than $1 million sustainability is a focus. Children at the school range from 18 months to 18 years old and are provided an education and stable family life through staff and volunteer support. Close to 95 percent of students who graduate from the school go to college. And, nearly 100 percent graduate debt-free with financial help as the school relies solely on donations. Generous philanthropy from donors and an annual PGA tour golf tournament has supported the school for many years.

What Happened
On April 3rd, 2018, a high-voltage power line broke and fell across the roof of the boys’ residence hall, possibly due to severe weather in the area. The extent of the damage was on the fourth floor and was controlled by local firefighters. There were no injuries reported.  Additionally, the fire caused a water and gas line to burst and the Parker Hall dormitory residents were displaced with personal losses and damage that caused the relocation of 125 students, faculty and their families to other buildings, on and off campus.

Paul Davis Role
Skeens and the Paul Davis team worked with first responders at an on-site command post and provided extensive emergency services, restoration, repairs and reconstruction work. Some of the construction at the school was donated by Paul Davis to help the worthy organization. Insurance coverage did not cover all work needed at the project, so Skeens and his team of industry certified technicians donated a portion of the project including emergency mitigation, clean up, and restoration of electrical wiring, flooring, roofing, HVAC, with rebuilding and updating interior and exterior areas from extensive fire, smoke and water damage, among many others. According to Greg DePriest, Director of Development at Mountain Mission School, the Paul Davis team led the construction and the company's work is greatly honored and appreciated.

"The children from dysfunctional families are at risk whether temporary or long-term at some point during their lives. Paul Davis is honored to be working to help these children and families in our community.” - Charles Skeens, owner of Paul Davis of Greater Tri Cities.

“Our expertise comes during a time of great stress in our customers’ lives. We try hard to help them through the process of not only emergencies but getting their lives back to normal during catastrophic damage.” - Rich Wilson, President and CEO of Paul Davis Restoration Inc.
