Please consider helping Patrick, any amount will help. You can truly help change a person’s life.

Imagine…sitting in front of your computer’s screen, your vision is fading and you can no longer see the content. The entire wealth of Internet content is lost to you.

Patrick Davis wants to do something about that. He is legally blind from a form of macular degeneration that began in 1992 and has progressed so much that he has to use a screen reader to access (read) any web page.

He has to rethink his life direction.

In October, HighEdWeb, a volunteer organization of thousands of colleges and universities web people, will hold the yearly conference in California.

Patrick submitted a presentation idea to show web people what he hears (or doesn't as is often the case) with a screen reader and also know how to correctly code a web site . The leaders were impressed enough to accept his presentation and cover half of his registration, a very rare occurrence.

Conferences are expensive – including travel, lodging, meals, registration and even wardrobe. The lodging itself is over $800.

Your contributions will go to the travel, lodging and meals in Sacramento.

This is a incredible opportunity for him and a new way to make a living that also has an impact on the world.

The session will  help Patrick with his dreams of consulting with web people to help them create “accessible” web sites for people with disabilities. The other win in this situation is knowledge web people will gain to create readable web sites for student with disabilities who want to go to college.

Please consider helping Patrick with this goal.

More about Patrick

He knows about loss. His vision loss began in 1992 and he was able to get by for years with magnification technology. He was pursuing a degree in Music when, in 2017, his vision became compromised so much he had to drop out of his program. The lack of accommodations in higher education was a critical factor. It was a difficult time in life for Patrick.

Patrick has new plans to update his web skills with a focus on web accessibility. And he has taken initiative to help himself - he is training at Deque University in accessibility design.

I met Patrick about a year ago and have learned so much about what a lack of vision means. I am constantly inspired by his intellect, spirituality, depth and, most of all, fortitude.

Please consider helping Patrick, any amount will help. You can truly help change a person’s life.

Thanks for the comment Sandy, I edited this to make it clearer about the donation goal. The funds will go toward the travel and lodging and rest of the registration (he still owes over $300) to get him to the conference to present to web authors about coding web pages for people with disabilities. A huge new career opportunity! I anticipate a lot of contacts after the presentation - web authors really want help with this topic.
