Pat's Permaculture Training

Donation protected
Hi friends! My name is Pat Mosley and I am raising funds to help pay my way to enroll in Oregon State University's Permaculture Design Certification course, which runs this September through December (2018).

Over the last year, I've interned on a cooperative farm in Winston-Salem, North Carolina where I've learned a lot about sustainable farming through hands-on experience with business planning, planting, harvesting, and more. Even before this experience, community-scale, low-tech, and off-grid farming have been interests of mine.

I want to continue developing these skill sets by completing a permaculture design certificate program.

More About Permaculture

Permaculture was originally conceptualized in the 1970s by David Holmgren and Bill Mollison. As a philosophical ecosystem, permaculture's roots can be found in sustainable agriculture, natural building, biomimicry, and synergistic design choices. Since the 70s, it has become a worldwide phenomenon and is now taught in numerous countries and languages.

More About the Program

Oregon State's program costs $740 + a $60 registration free. I already have a copy of the textbook we'll be using. Unlike other permaculture design programs, the Oregon State program is online-based but still instructor-led. Completing an online program will allow me to study in this field without having to take off time from work to complete an on-site program.

What I Will Do With This Certificate

I am passionate about growing food and growing communities that are sustainably rooted at the crossroads between people, planet, and wildlife. By completing this program, I hope to not only deepen my knowledge of permaculture design for my own backyard projects, but to share this knowledge with others as a designer and teacher.

Permaculture is still a fairly radical idea where I live, but together we can change that. I want to be part of re-designing the way we think about food, labor, pollination, and our relationships to land and other animals.

If you believe in what I want to do too, I would be grateful for any contribution you can spare. Thank you!
