On the 26th December Ian Mortimer (Mort to most) passed away peacefully after a long dance with cancer.
Mort has been instrumental in many momentous artistic endeavors, from helping found the Flying Fruit Fly circus to the Great Big Story Book and many, many projects in between. Mort was once charged with and aquitted of sedition for daring to continue to busk when told to stop - he fought for the free spirits of artists everywhere. Mort's unending generosity of his energy, time and guidence had set many people on amazing trajectories through their lives.
Mort was a raconteur, a vagabond, a charming rouge, a mystic, a performer, a pupeteer, a musician, a father, a husband, and a simply unstoppable force as he blazed his way through this world.
For all his sterling qualities and talents, accounting skills were not amongst them. Mort has left behind a legacy of music, joy and countless stories to those who love him, but the wrapping up of a life such as Mort's is expensive. In true busking fashion, we are passing the hat to help cover the costs of his funeral, wake, and the winding up of his affairs. Any funds above and beyond this will go towards supporting his loving wife, Jo.
If you are a busker, you could dedicate a show to Mort and pass the hat for him at the end.
