Penn Alexander School Robotics Team

The Penn Alexander Robotics Team won 1st Place in Presentation at the Regional Competition and the highest point average in three categories - project, robot design and core values. We earned a ticket to the World Festival in St. Louis, MO but we need your help to get there.

The money raised by this campaign will support the four-day travel expenses (airfare, lodging and meals) for ten 7th and 8th grade team members, our fabulous science teacher sponsor and four chaperones. We need to raise the funds quickly so we can begin to book flights.

Our team has been working on this robotics project since September. This year’s challenge was Trash Trek. We had to choose a trash-related problem, create a solution and share that solution. We've been litter-ally digging through trash for five months!  We decided to tackle recycling in our school and, specifically, in our cafeteria. 

We wrote a script, composed a song and filmed a music video about recycling – all by ourselves.  We started a school-wide campaign called Waste-Free Wednesdays that’s been so effective that we’re sharing it with other Philadelphia schools.  We've already reduced cafeteria waste at our school by 38% (according to student-run waste audits)!  Imagine the impact we will have on our community, our city and our planet when our team shares this story with the rest of the world.

We are so thrilled for this opportunity. Our public school is based in Philadelphia, PA and has experienced dramatic funding cuts in recent years, including many cuts in extracurricular activities. We feel very fortunate to be able to participate in robotics and appreciate the strong support of our parents, teachers, administrators, fellow students and the whole school community. We are excited to represent our school and will do our best to make you all proud. Thank you for helping make our robotics dream a reality!

·      ‪Our team is only three years old.
·      ‪Only two of our team members have completed FLL before this year.
·      ‪One of our programmers did not know anything about programming before she joined robotics and is now an expert
·      ‪We named our robot Robert.
