Paste Mag Internship in Atlanta!

Doação protegida
Hello, everyone!

As many of you might know, I'm nearing the end of my academic career as an undergrad at the University of Montana. It's taken a long time to get here, but the end is in sight. To say I'm excited is an understatement of the highest order.

I started university knowing little about what sort of work I'd like to do, but everything clicked during my sophomore year. I took a position as an arts reporter at the Montana Kaimin, an independent newspaper on campus and an all-around good time. (Seriously, head to our website when you get a chance.) Thanks to Kira V for suggesting I give it a shot; life's not been the same since!

I ended up falling in love with the entire journalism experience, switching lanes to become an arts and opinion editor. There have been great times. There have been bad times. But the experience has been something I'll never forget. You mean I get to write about things I want to write about? And PAID for it?* Sign me up.

So you can imagine how I feel about being offered an internship with an Atlanta-based publication, Paste Magazine. Paste is basically right up my alley. It runs the gamut of arts coverage with an approachable voice I really love. The internship starts May 13 and ends August 13, which, I don't need to tell you is very, very soon.

The issue is, of course, aside from a small stipend up front, I will be making no money during those weeks. You can see where this might cause issues. I have a little money saved from scholarships, grants and such. However, it's nowhere near what I'd need to survive a sweaty summer in Georgia.

So even though it feels incredibly awkward to do this, I'm asking for help from all you wonderful people. Anything you donate will be used for rent/utilities/groceries/etc. You know, the stuff it takes to get by for three months away from home. Maybe I could have just started off this essay with "STARVING STUDENT," but that's a little on the nose, right?

Anything contributed is deeply appreciated. I can't stress that enough. This internship is such a perfect opportunity, and the experience I'll gain will be invaluable.

PS: If anyone in the Atlanta/Decatur area knows of a place to stay during that time, let me know! I'm a pretty chill dude, if I do say so myself.

Thanks to everyone for taking the time to read; this turned into a ramble.

- Drew

*Very little. You don't go into this line of work for the dollar bills, y'all.
