Somewhere Over the Rainbow

Somewhere Over the Rainbow is an installation about water that I am creating for ArtPrize Nine in Grand Rapids Michigan. It will be located in the lobby of TowerPinkster, an architectural and engineering firm in the arts district.
I am creating an environment that speaks to the senses via water imagery, color, light, and wind. Suspended from a 15' high ceiling, panels of fabric with waterfall imagery cascade down, capturing the force and feeling of gravity. Fans rotate the air in the lobby space, interacting with the fabric panels, creating a powerful physical and emotional experience.
Vibrant colored gels project color through the glass window facade. Circles of color appear on the floor creating a sense of immersion that is purifying and transformational, softening the urban state of mind into a poetic exchange.
Somewhere Over the Rainbow plays with architectural space extending beyond what we know about water. Embracing the visitor with a sense of immersion, the environment elevates the gravity of water in our lives, celebrating its ability to cleanse and transform, evoking a sense of passage and rejuvenation. Resonating with healing energy, throughout history water has transformed the body and mind. Whether by ship, aimlessly floating, drinking a glass of water, or bathing
and diving into unknown depths, the very nature of water provides a voyage somewhere.
Please join me in celebrating lakes, rivers and streams.
Swim in the ocean. Go fishing. Splash around the pool.
Dive. Stand under a waterfall. Float. Drink a glass of water.
Water is the very essence of our being. Where there is water, there is life.
