Funding required to extend an existing palm oil scanner app to Australia, New Zealand, UK and USA.
Palm Oil Investigations released a free palm oil scanner app in 2014. This app crashed back in April 2018 which resulted in an irreparable app and loss of all data thanks to the developer.
Mel, our product research manager had put almost 4 years full-time voluntary hours into researching every product then loading the scan results into the back end of the application. Mel also used this data as reference to answer thousands of emails and questions on our FB page regarding products.
The entire POI team of volunteers are absolutely gutted over the loss of this data.
Following a recent poll on our FB page, the owner of a new Palm Oil Scanner app that is currently operational in the Czech Republic and extending to the Netherlands, has come forward offering POI free access to the already built platform.
This app has every feature we were going to include in a new build. It is super user friendly and will be free to download. Scan results fall into 2 categories, yes, the products contains palm oil or palm derived ingredients or no, the product is palm oil free.
As we no longer hold faith in RSPO certified sustainable palm oil for a multitude of reasons, we feel it would be misleading to consumers to give the green light to products using the RSPO system.
Why are we needing to raise funds?
Extensive product research and data entry into the app so we can open it up for download and use in Australia, New Zealand, Canada, UK and USA.
As we previously stated, Mel our product research manager had put in almost 4 years full time voluntary hours, we cannot ask her to do this on a voluntary basis all over again.
We are needing to cover 12 months wages for our trusted researcher Mel and her assistant to take on this extensive and time consuming project. The more hours we can cover the more data we can load into the back end of the app to help shoppers avoid palm oil. To speed up the process we will also be enlisting at least 10 volunteers in each country to assist with data collection.
POI was founded in 2013 and during this entire time all our work has been on a voluntary basis.
Please help us so we can help you as a consumer, identify palm oil in products and give you the tools to take direct action with the brands using this cheap and destructive oil.
