Expanding Palliative Care - Norfolk

Donation protected
My name is Abbie and I'm here to ask for your help. I'm sharing part of a story that I have never told before.

At the beginning of 2016, my Dad started noticing signs of abnormality about his body; pains and attributes that were different and alarming. In March, he had to go to A&E as the pain became excruciating. It was revealed he had a mass. Another scan showed that there was another mass in an area which couldn't be treated. 4 weeks after this I was told that my Dad had terminal cancer. This is when we were told to talk to a palliative care team. After these events, my Mum and Dad who had been together for 22 years decided to get married. They got married on the 14th May, after battles for paperwork. My Dad just managed to say his vows legally, in his wheelchair. Watching your parents get married is a wonderful experience any child wants to experience, but you don't expect to be watching your Dad having to be pushed down the aisle in a wheelchair, hardly aware of where he was, not being able to look down cameras, and spending his wedding night attached to a machine upstairs. After the wedding, on 16th of May, he was told he had two weeks to live. He died on the 19th of May, in the middle of my GCSEs (even though I hope I did him proud... I did all my exams except 1 and I got 6 A*s and 2 As).

This has been no doubt the hardest thing I have ever (and probably will ever) go through. I no longer have a father to walk me down the aisle, to see me get my degree and job and my future. My mum was married and widowed in 4 days. And although losing him physically was hard, watching the life and hope drain out of the man I had admired for my whole life was, and is, so painful.

Luckily, the morning before my Dad passed away, with much battling he had been admitted to Priscilla Bacon Lodge, the only unit dedicated to end of life care in Norwich, with 10-15 beds. This lack of facilities is a horrifying fact that our family decided to do something about, so my sister Emma dedicated her time to help the fundraising, progression and promotion of the charity Priscilla Bacon Hospice to extend Palliative care for those who need a comfortable and equipped area and support for when the time comes. Your money will contribute to the expansion on Palliative care in Norfolk. Plans are progressing and charity shops are opening, but this is not a cheap task. Please be generous, donate, share, do all you can for this brilliant and personal cause for me.

Nobody should lose their Dad at 16, but my Dad was the most incredible, hilarious, loving man and the existense of Priscilla Bacon Lodge meant that the memories left in my house were all positive. So I'm doing this in honour of him.

This is a small charity and we NEED your help to help others who need end of life care. This is so important, and I hope you can do all you can to help. It can be happen if enough people help. Your money will go directly to the charity.

Thank you
Abbie x
