Paddle to Puyallup Blanket

Donation protected
For ages, the indigenous peoples of the Pacific Northwest have gathered together for potlatches, or giveaways, sharing their gratitude with and for one another. In 1989, the Coast Salish Tribes began the annual Canoe Journey. The canoe journey and week-long "protocol" is a cultural reconnection of tribes with special significance to participants. Read more about the 2107 Journey in this article,

In 2018, the Puyallup Tribe of Indians is hosting the Power Paddle to Puyallup July 28-Aug. 4 ,  http://paddletopuyallup.org/. "Honoring Our Medicine" is the theme for the 2018 Paddle. Over 100 canoes will journey from as far north as Alaska and as far south as California for eight days of feasting, singing, dancing, drumming, and sharing through giveaways.

The Puyallup Blanket Project
Learning Right Relations, is a group of non-tribal people working in solidarity with the Puyallup Canoe Family, by sponsoring a blanket project, helping make other giveaway items, and by volunteering for the event.

The Canoe Family selected the Puyallup Salmon design to grace the 80” x 60”  fleece blanket. These blankets will be donated to the Puyallup Canoe Family to gift during protocol when the Tribe honors their guests with gifts.

You are invited to support this project. Donors are asked to contribute $95 to purchase ten blankets. You will receive one blanket in appreciation for your donation. Checks are preferred and should be payable to: Learning Right Relations, with “Blanket” on the memo line. Mail the check to Learning Right Relations, 5515 40th Ave SW, Olympia, WA 98512. If you prefer to pay by credit card, use the Paddle to Puyallup Blanket GoFundMe Campaign.   My name, Elizabeth Rodrick, is listed as the organizer of this campaign, the funds are automatically transferred to the LRR bank account at WSECU so we can purchase the blankets.  Then we will donate them to the canoe family. Your name will be listed as one of the donors.

The blanket is being produced by the Native American-owned Pacific Blanket Trading Post in Anacortes, WA,  http://www.pacificblankettradingpost.com/.
You will be notified when the blankets are available for pick up at Traditions Cafe and Store in Olympia. If you do not live in Olympia, please send me your address and it can be mailed to you.

We raise our hands to you in thanks for your generous contribution!
