We are heart broken ... We are with deep sorrow to announce bear suffered a fall do to lack of strength and was unable to get up last night ... The hospital said they think his lack of strength and muscle is the cause... And suffered injuries to his knees... Bear witness was sent to heaven with his mother and father at 11:05 am on oct 21 2015... Please understand we ask and fought with the vet / equine hospitals recommendation for a long time and tried to find out any possible option... But with no strength and no ability to stand on his own it was not possible to continue his suffering ... Please know we are crushed and am so overwhelmed at the support for bear ... I am greatful that bear had Jessie to love him to the very end ...

So you're not a registered charity, right? Which means you're not accountable for where the money that people give you, goes. You could be spending it on your own horses or whatever you want, actually. What's also not clear is why this particular horse continued to lose weight in your care. What was the "strict diet" he was on? I assume he had refeeding syndrome at first, but I'm not convinced that accounts for his continued decline and ultimate acute organ failure. Did you have a necropsy done? I don't think so. By rights, you should have had a necropsy done, because you had him for long enough that you can't simply pass the buck to the previous owners and say "they did this to him" because you don't know.

I am very interested in donating to such a worthy cause, I too, live in Nunnelly, where are you and how many horses have you rescued? I have rescued numerous animals myself, and know the costs involved!

Dear Jessie: I don't have enough words to express how I feel about the loss of dear baby Bear and your courageous fight to save him. Thank you seems inadequate. My first donation was to try to help him recover. My second donation is for you to somehow try to recover from losing him. Please use these donations any way you see fit. Love and hugs to you in the sad days ahead missing that sweet, beautiful Bear.

I can't edit mydonation comment! Needless to say, although I have enough, I'm NOT well off in terms of worldly finances... you gave yourself so completely to this poor abused animal, thank you.

This is the message I left on Secretariat's Facebook page to try to get more support for your cause: I loved Big Red and his daughter, Lady's Secret. I was heartbroken to see Bear Witness, the son of Lady's Secret, who was recently saved from certain death at an auction by a very kind lady. He is in terrible shape. He was ill and starving and needs help. I'm praying that all those fans that loved Secretariat will reach out to help his grandson. There is a gofundme account in his name if you wish to help him. You can find out more about him on the Lady's Secret Facebook page. He also has his own Facebook page. I know you will want to help . I don't normally donate to unknown people, but after you see him and his story, how can you not want to help? Thank you and please share this with anyone who might be interested.

I wish this world had more people like you. I hope one day stiff laws will be passed to protect all animals. I just don't understand how people can be so cruel. Thank you for caring.

Towards expenses for Bear Witness' care (I'm sure all the bills haven't yet come in), or towards the next discarded TB that you rescue. Thank you for loving him, and for trying to restore him to health.
