Helmets for all
Donation protected
How many of you know of a loved one who died riding his / her motorcycle without a helmet? In 3 states, Iowa, Illinois and New Hampshire, it happens too often. My son, John jr, better known as "Buddy" loved riding motorcycles more than anything. He recently died as a result of a motorcycle wreck. This has left me devastated, mostly because I have never encouraged the use of helmets, as I have never found them as a benefit as much as a nuisance. I am not sure whether wearing a helmet would have saved his life, but out of my grief I want to help others so they don't have to ask that question.
Iowa, Illinois and New Hampshire have no helmet laws, and I refuse to change that, as I believe it should be everyone's personal decision. However, I am asking for your help to make that decision a free decision in these 3 states and eventually in all 50.
I have been working with a few of the helmet manufacturers to make a special limited helmet design that everyone will recognize as a free helmet, that cannot be resold. These I would like to give out to motorcyclists starting in these 3 states as early as next years riding season. I want to offer the half helmets for free to anyone who says they want one, these usually run around $60 each and I am hoping to raise $30,000 to distribute 500 helmets in each of these 3 states. if at all possible I would love to extend this program to other states. If I am able to save one persons life, one husband or wife, one daughter or sons life, perhaps this pain in my chest may subside a little.
keep riding with the wind in your hair my friends,
John
