SMU MSA Showdown 2015 Charity Drive

Showdown 2015 is coming up fast and we need your help raising money! This year's charity drive will benefit United Muslim Relief. In their own words, here is what they do:

United Muslim Relief is a humanitarian organization that works to alleviate poverty around the world. Founded by college students and young volunteers in 2000, the organization has grown to become one of the largest Muslim NGOs in the US.

Natural disasters and conflict mean that UMR is constantly assisting those who lack access to the most basic of needs such as food, shelter and medicine. With the generous help of our donors we have been able to provide lifesaving assistance in numerous countries around the world. As well as responding to the humanitarian tragedies born out of the conflict in Syria, Palestine and the Central African Republic, UMR has also responded to natural disasters in Haiti, Pakistan and the Philippines.

We are honored to be partnering up with MSA Showdown in Texas. This year’s Showdown Charity Drive money will be going toward the Emergency Relief Fund - aid that goes towards unexpected and tragic natural or human disasters. Through this partnership we hope to be able to save more valuable lives in the year to come. The more money we have in our emergency response pot the faster we are able to send emergency response teams out to the field. As well as distributing food packs, hygiene packs and winter packs to those mode in need, UMR specializes in sending out essential medicine and medical supplies.

Many of UMR's volunteers and leaders are college students, including some of SMU MSA's own members. By donating, not only are you helping a great cause, but you are also contributing towards SMU MSA's participation at Showdown! Schools who raise the most money are awarded points that could help them place 1st, 2nd, or 3rd overall.
