Tools4Teens
Hello,
Tools4Teens gives tools away to creative kids, promoting "do it yourself" activities and Yankee ingenuity. Our goal is to get kids and young adults back into the workshop being creative.
I am a retired physician and lifelong inventor/mechanic/artist who has made it my mission to promote teen technical mentorship. Fixing and creating things with one's hands builds self esteem and is very gratifying. I feel that we need to not only bring youth back to the workshop, but to encourage woman to get involved . I have developed a program to foster this idea, and did a pilot project at the Minneapolis/St. Paul Mini Maker's Faire in May 2016. This event was a success and in one day, we gave away close to 200 adult level tool kits to excited kids. We hope to expand on that theme in 2017 and participate in larger ones in the future, possibly at additional technology venues frequented by youth (perhaps again at the Minnesota State Fair, home shows and hot rod shows). I am hoping that you might care to be involved.
Here is my project:
We are available at various car shows, motorcycle shows and other appropriate events where kids 10-18 years old can either participate in tool using activities or provide evidence of hands-on projects they have done at home. This might be a questionaire they have filled out, pictures of their project, a pinewood derby car, a tool using merit badge, etc. As supplies last, our mentors will give them fully stocked adult level toolkits. Our goal would be to give away 2000 kits in 2018 to tool-crazy kids. Kits available now cost us $20 each.

In 2018 Tools4Teens hopes to give away at least 2000 tool bags. We gave away over 1000 in 2017 and demand and enthusiasm was so great that we know we can double the amount. Northern Tool has graciously offered what amounts to a matching grant, which cuts our target budget in half! Check out the new website at Tools4Teens.org
