Katie’s Journey: Fighting Lyme Disease
I am Katie, an independent 33 year old who loves the outdoors, serves in the MN Army National Guard, photographer and being active with my dog, Bella. All those things became limiting to me as my health started to decline the fall of 2017.
Symptoms started out as; brain fog, disorientation, migraines, and constant dizziness. Over short amount of time they worsened with flu-like symptoms, constant nausea and vomiting, fevers and sweats, neurological issues, chest pain and heart palpitations. These symptoms worsened and the list grew over time. After visiting many doctors, there was no resolve which left me feeling lost, and with unanswered questions.
Living with these symptoms has become my new normal. It’s caused me to miss many days of work, some days leaving me bedridden and having limitations on normal daily activities. My Army career is now pending due to the challenging physical activities of training. As a young adult in my prime my body feels like I’ve aged forty years on my worse days.
Because my condition went undiagnosed for so long, it has caused long-term damage to my body. I’ve seen 15-20 doctors and have had many labs and tests done for multiple things like celiac disease, auto immune diseases like Lupus and Rheumatoid Arthritis and diagnosed with Fibromyalgia.
November 2018, I was finally diagnosed with Chronic Lyme Disease along with three other co-infections; Babesia, Bartonella and Mycoplasma Pneumonia. There is no cure for this condition. There is also no set protocol to treat Chronic Lyme Disease. Our goal is to get this condition into remission, boost my immune system so I can enjoy a higher level quality of life.
My need: Financially this condition has become a burden with cost of living expenses and medical bills. My family found a medical center in Mankato, MN that specifically treats Chronic Lyme Disease. I will not be working during this time allowing my body to heal. This has been an extremely difficult journey for me and my family. We are opening up to you and asking for any support, donations to help with cost of living expenses, medical services for ongoing care and future treatments as insurance does NOT cover these services for Chronic Lyme Disease. This path will be an out of pocket expense ranging from $30,000 plus. We are truly grateful for all support we’ve received and pray for success for full recovery.
