I’d like to start this off by saying that it is not in our nature to ask for help, especially on a platform asking for monetary donations - but we find ourselves in this situation now. My husband, Alec Rampton, is the recipient of 3 liver transplants due to an autoimmune disease called Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis. PSC is incurable and can only be treated through organ transplantation. As you can imagine the last ten years of dealing with Alec’s health issues have been costly. We have received so much love and N outpouring of donations from friends, relatives, family, and strangers alike. We would not have stayed afloat without you. I don’t know if Alec would have fought so hard to stay with us during his last 30+ hour liver transplant surgery if not for so many rooting for him and us. So, from the bottom of my heart, thank you. Recently, Alec spent two weeks in the hospital at the University of Chicago being treated for severe malnutrition resulting from collateral system damage from his post liver transplant treatments. He is 6’1” and only weighed 126 pounds when he was checked in to the hospital. In the years between his first and second transplants it was necessary to remove his large intestine to prevent cancer. As a result of this Alec has dealt with very uncomfortable and painful side effects - including malnutrition. Being so severely malnourished, Alec’s doctors were nervous about his body turning on him, especially his liver. When the body searches for nutrients to feed itself and can’t find them it looks for muscle. When it can’t find any muscle, it turns to the organs. We are forever grateful to Dr. Charlton and his team of many talented and knowledgeable doctors that, through research and great skill, were able to reverse Alec’s deteriorating condition. Alec has put back on over 20 pounds with some new medications (along with the 40+ pills he already takes daily) and many of the painful, life threatening issues have been resolved. Alec’s liver is healthy and his body is recovering. However, the continuing post transplant care remains costly. I know the finances take a toll on Alec. He feels he is to blame for our often empty wallets. More than anything, I know financial relief would probably benefit Alec’s health more than he would care to admit. It weighs so heavily on him. If you are able to contribute even the slightest amount, we thank you. If you are unable to donate we encourage you to register as an organ donor to give the gift of life to another in their desperate hour of need. Because of 3 beautiful, selfless donors, I have my husband and our 3 children have their amazing father. We thank you, and we love you. Gratefully, The Rampton Family
