As many of you know, Sandra, is my older sister. Those of you who know Sandra, will also know her husband - Owen. Sandra & Owen have been together for 20 years and they’ve been inseparable since the moment they met. If there are ever two soulmates, it’s Sandra & Owen.
Sandra & Owen have been living abroad in Spain for nearly 10 years and they have 3 young children. Unfortunately, Sandra & Owen, and their 3 kids have had to return to Ireland extremely suddenly, completely unexpectedly, and under devastating circumstances. Owen, who is only 44, has just been diagnosed with advanced aggressive prostate cancer which has spread to his liver and lymph nodes. On the advice of medical professionals, Sandra & Owen moved back to Ireland so Owen could get chemo and other treatment and be around family and friends.
Owen’s career as a fantastic photographer has come to an abrupt and unexpected end. Sandra is providing round-the-clock care for Owen and the kids so there’s no way she can work. Medical bills are mounting, the family needs to find somewhere to live in Dublin, they need a car, insurance, they need to be able to provide for their kids etc.
As none of us would ever like to imagine, dealing with such a shattering diagnosis in addition to uprooting your children from their home has been horrific. Sandra is a rock - she has been so strong for Owen, for the kids, for the rest of the family, but now she needs a little help.
This year, I will be running the Dublin City Marathon for Owen, for Sandra, and for their kids. Any money I raise will go directly to the family to provide for them in their time of desperate need.
I’m so grateful for any support you can give Sandra - none of us know what’s around the corner, Sandra & Owen certainly didn’t.
