HOMELESSNESS is one of our greatest social issues today,.
It is not a national problem but a global one. To end, or at least decrease, homelessness first we need to raise awareness and fight ignorance.
This project aims to share people's stories, people who live or have lived on the street, from 11 different countries. All continents represented. It aims to show the role of society, local laws and legislations , circumstances, trends, and general conditions for people without a home. It also aims to make you think and question our current reality.
The budget is calculated on a base of 2000 € / trip.
1000€ for the airplane ticket and 1000€ for a 2 week "Volunteer abroad program".
( which means 50 % of the budget from the get go, goes directly to charities helping people on the street!)
For security reasons, and because of the likelihood of a language barrier, I can not do these trips on my own, as I have previously.
The Title of the project, Outcast, represents the segregation of groups of people. The reasons for segregation and non-acceptance vary; cultural, religious, financial and political. The number of homeless people in for example Paris has increased by 50% in the last couple of years. Despite the increasing number, the individuals in question are rarely acknowledged as human beings with a right to express themselves.
Freedom of speech for everyone is at the heart of my inspiration: to raise the voice of the people unheard but present. We see homeless people on every corner, their marked faces, their sad eyes, but we don’t know what lies behind.
The first part of this project, shows typical faces we see on a daily basis, but they all have their own very different stories: real, honest, frightening, awakening. We can’t judge someone or have an opinion, based on an image. There are many isolated groups worldwide, who suffer and rarely get the chance to communicate. This is their chance.
The common curiosity amongst us is present, as well as the willingness to communicate, which clearly underpins the goal and purpose of this project.
The goal is to finish and have the book ready for publishing latest by 2023.
An important delay due to COVID
When the book is published 50% of all financial gain goes to participants / charities of my choice. ( Where I know the money will be used wisely and handled correctly.)
All donation of 20€ and up, receive their free copy of the book.
