Help Give Liam a Chance to Succeed

Autism is Liam's diagnosis, but he is so much more. Liam is on his way to a therapeutic boarding school out of state but his home school in New Jersey will only pay so much. Each month, his parents are responsible for the overage of $3,500. That's $42,000 a year for the next four years to give Liam the most appropriate education for his unique learning style. I'm starting out by trying to fund one month of Liam's boarding school cost of $3,500, but would be grateful for any amount. UPDATE: The therapeutic boarding school has a rate increase going into effect as of January 1, 2019 so I raised the goal to $7,000 - 2 months of out-of-pocket tuition cost at the current rate.

In Liam's 16 years, he has had so  many challenges to overcome, and with the love and caring support of his parents, Celia and Jeff, he has thrived. This last year has been a struggle though. In addition to his educational struggles, Liam was diagnosed with bi-polar disorder. His genetic testing revealed that his body is not able to metabolize the medications taken to treat his bi-polar disorder and some of the various medications he takes to  treat his behavioral issues.

The cost of Liam's doctors and education have financially exhausted his family. His parents have given until they literally have nothing left. Multiple jobs, mortgaging their home, taking out catastrophic loans, borrowing against retirement savings, along with support of friends and family helped provide enough to get close to financing Liam's educational placement, but they have fallen $3,500 a month short.

They are so close to an appropriate placement for Liam. Once the home school makes their first payment to the out of state school, Liam can begin at his new school. He has been away from his parents in New Jersey while at a therapeutic placement in Utah where doctors are stabilizing his medications and treating his behavioral needs. Liam has made tremendous progress! In the next month, Liam will move to Wisconsin to begin at his boarding school where he will remain for the next four years.

What these parents have done for their son is beyond amazing. I watch my friends struggle through the many challenges of raising a son with autism. I feel their love and devotion to do whatever is necessary for his best interests. They would never admit it, but they are beaten and exhausted and need financial help to make this boarding school transition possible for Liam.

Whatever you can contribute is very helpful. And just knowing that there are good and caring people in the world who want to help lifts Liam's parents up and gives them strength to continue their fight to provide their son with the best opportunities available to him.
