Computers for Children
OurNewChapter helps Chirumalar Constructive Pedagogy
Chirumalar School is a rural school run by volunteers in Tamil Nadu in India. The school is offering students the opportunity to continue their education upto 17/18 years old.
There are 33 students (there may be a few more to join). Out of these students, 28 of them are from nearby villages and the other 5 are from far away villages but due to difficult family situations they can stay at the community complex to complete their studies. All are of rural and peasant family background.
Out of 33 students 17 are boys and 16 are girls.
Currently the school only has 3 computers. For this new initiative to be effective, the school needs 30 computers to help the students fulfill their education at a higher secondary education level.
The computers will be laptops with Windows 10.

Broadband will be installed in the school for Wifi connectivity.
The students are in their 11th standard education program (of two years)
They are in the age group of 16 or 17
They are all studying in Chirumalar Higher Secondary school.
They study under 4 different categories of subjects :- Maths and allied subjects, Science and allied subject, Commerce and allied subjects and History and allied subjects.
Students will complete the two years with the opportunities (that otherwise were not available to them)
- to go further in university education.
- better job opportunities locally.
- in the long run they will form an educated and well informed community among the peasant families of the locality.
Educating young people is in fact creating a better future of the country which definitely includes environment and gender equality which are both crucial to the Indian society.
OurNewChapter is made up of a group in Brussels, Belgium who are helping the students. To date through different locally based initiatives we raised funds for the tuition fees.
The computers will be a great addition to the school to help the children and their studies. This appeal is our solution to help pay for the purchase of these computers.
We have launched an initiative for a joint project to begin in the Fall between the Indian school and a school in Brussels (Belgium) to exchange cultural ideas and experiences in the two countries.
We we really hope this appeal for funding will reach the objective we have set ourselves.
