Hello,
I am starting this GoFundMe Page in the face of devastation. The flooding this year has been catastrophic throughout the Ottawa Region, Quebec and the East Coast of Canada.
I am asking for your help with a small community in the Whitewater Region, about 20 minutes from Pembroke;
Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish and Our Lady of Grace Parish.
My parents, Adrien and Evelyn Giroux and my brother and sister-in-law Jim and Cindy Giroux are but a few of the many families that have evacuated from the area. This has never happened before.
Most residents are elderly but the county, first responders and really all the community not affected by the rising waters have succeeded in keeping everyone safe, I can't thank them enough. There are no words.
They fought a hard battle the last 5 days and lost.
All roads to this area have been flooded, there is no access in and out, not even by boat. The Military have been monitoring the area for any dangers that can happen with this type of disaster, again there are no words to describe how they have given some peace of mind to the families that have evacuated.
The people in this community banned together in 2017 to help with the flooding, this year was no different. However, this year the flooding reached levels never before seen and the mighty Ottawa River is not done yet!
I know people say if you build on the river you have to expect flooding, I agree, we grew up on the river. Everyone has some type of insurance but, as we all know, it doesn’t cover everything. This year the river has proceeded to flood ALL areas along the Ottawa River in this quiet Hamlet.
The community is strong in their faith, but they need your help to rebuild. They simply can't do it alone this time.
