Hi! Meliah & Michael Apa here! We're newlyweds living in the Pacific Northwest, but our love story is a little all over the world.
5 years ago, we met and fell in love on an island paradise in the South Pacific Ocean, just north of Australia. Michael is a Papua New Guinean national, and Meliah is US citizen and was living in Papua New Guinea with her family as missionaries.
Long story short, Michael came to the US to pursue a college education, and entered the States on an F-1 student visa. But now that we're married, his status has changed and we have hired a team of immigration lawyers to help Michael get his permanent residency (or his "green card"). This new status will allow Michael to work full-time and travel outside of the country (and return home to his family for the first time since 2014!). Unfortunately, we are working with only one primary income, and between the cost of lawyers and the government fees, this is an exceptionally expensive pursuit.
According to our lawyers, everything is ready to be sent to the government for further review; unfortunately, they need $1760 to file it. This is a one-time fee that must be given to the lawyers in full before we schedule our 'filing appointment'. As far as we understand it, this appointment will allow Michael to work a little more regularly as he will officially enter into what's called "Adjustment of Status". This is not his green card, or his citizenship, but it is the next step in this grand immigration quest.
We need to submit this "filing fee" of $1760.00 as soon as possible. All donations will go to this cause.
We were hesitant to fund-raise for this because we wanted to believe that we could do this on our own-- we are married now, after all-- but reality has set in, and for weeks now, we have realized we can't raise this money on our own. Already, so many of you have asked about ways you can bless our little family. and after lots of prayer and consideration, we now know that this is what we need to do.
We are beyond grateful for you considering this as a venture you can invest in, and please know that no matter the amount you can give, it is greatly appreciated. We consider it as an immense blessing to the beginning of us.
