Otto Adoption

I have wanted to adopt internationally for as long as I can remember. Growing up around families who pursued international adoption truly inspired me. How beautiful is it to see a family where one of the children is adopted and the other biological, and see those siblings interact as if they were blinded to their differences? There is nothing more beautiful than that to me! When I met Derek and learned he supported the idea, this dream of international adoption inched closer and closer to reality. We want to bring a child into our home and we want them to know that we CHOSE them. It didn’t happen naturally, it happened because we loved them and wanted them before the day they were even born, and we would walk through fire to get to them.

After months – years, rather – of doing research, we finally found an agency that met our needs, not excluding our financial needs. International adoption is expensive – it’s as plain as that. Agencies we explored ranged anywhere from $23,000-$58,000; the higher end being unrealistic for our family, and the lower end still being a challenge. Luckily we were able to find an agency that offered what we were looking for, as well as an agency that we met their requirements for, closer to the lower end but still totaling up to about $30,000. (Fee schedule attached for breakdown – agency and country information removed to save disclosure for the Country Reveal Party). And even after finalizing adoption process costs, we still have to prepare ourselves for the oh-so-warned-about, to-be-expected costs of parenting!

This is a huge financial obligation, and we realize that having our own children first wouldn’t require the all-at-once, “upfront” costs, but going through with this adoption means the world to us. This child is the missing piece to our story, and a place in our hearts has been carved out for her for longer than she will ever comprehend. If you want to know more about our journey (besides the country if you’re reading this before May 11th – nice try!), please feel free to ask us questions. Just as any other expecting parents, we love to share about this exciting time of our lives!

Please consider contributing to the Otto Adoption. Even the smallest amount of your change will help make a big change to the entire world of a little girl, a little girl out there right now waiting for a mommy and daddy to bring her home.
