Otay Ranch Students need Your Help

Donation protected
The Otay Ranch All Male and Otay Ranch All Female Dance team need your help and support to compete in upcoming competitions because ORHS unexpectedly eliminated the competitive dance team and all funds towards competitions.

The Otay Ranch High School has a dance club that is student run. Within the Dance club is a competitive dance team that represents Otay Ranch High School in dance competitions. At the beginning of the school year, the ORHS club advisor provided the club a list of upcoming competitions. The students prepared for the competitions by dedicating a large number of hours after school creating new choreography and practicing.

Their first competition of this school year was on Jan 19 and the competitive team represented ORHS at the WCE Regionals competitions. The All Male team won 2nd place and were expected to compete at WCE Nationals but, that all changed. Just recently, the school realized that the operation of a competitive dance team are inconsistent with being an All-Inclusive high school club. The ORHS admin expects all club members to be an active part of the competitive dance team. On Feb 12, ORHS decided to eliminate the competitive dance team, place the club on suspension, accepted the club’s advisor resignation of no longer being the club’s advisor, hold all funds, requested refunds for any future competitions that have already been paid, instructed the team to not represent ORHS, and left the club in limbo. Parents met with the ORHS admin. They did not offer to collaborate or offer suggestions on how parents can support the team.

The parents immediately stepped in to be their advisors and had multiple meetings with the team to encourage and provide support. The kids just want to showcase their hard work, dedication, and talent by participating in competitions. As a result, the team decided to create their own independent team that is not associated with the high school. The team needs funding for registration fees and costumes to continue competing in two events in March and April. We are seeking monetary assistance from our family, friends, and community to help support the students cover the registration fees, costumes, etc.

***For our family and friends who previously donated to the School’s ORAM/ORAF team fundraising event: We wanted to say Thank You to those who have previously donated. At the beginning of the school year, the advisor helped host a fundraising event for the club. The goal was to use the money for future competitions. Since this event, the High School admin team decided to restrict all funds for only on-campus events and they requested a refund for any upcoming dance competitions. We want this competitive team to succeed and every bit of support whether monetary or cheering from the sidelines will mean a great deal to All Male and All Female dance team.***

Thank you!
