Osvaldo's Funeral Arrangements

Donation protected
Dear Friends, we have reached and actually surpassed our target in a little over 12 hours. Your generosity is overwhelming and fills us with gratitude in this sad time for us. Although we have reached the target, I will still leave the campaign open because there are other costs that we will be facing associated with Osvaldo's demise. Rest assured that every penny will be used to cover exactly those expenses. I want to thank you all on behalf of Osvaldo's mother, Adelma, and of his friends and loved ones. THANK YOU!

Osvaldo passed away unexpectedly on Monday, October 30. His only direct family was his mother, Adelma, an elderly woman who lives in Argentina.  Adelma does not have the resources to pay for Osvaldo's funeral arrangements. The plan is to have Osvaldo's body cremated here in CT and then send his ashes to the mother in Argentina. The cremation plus other basic administrative services provided by the funeral home are around $3,500. The money is needed ASAP. We hope that among all Osvaldo's friends and anyone willing to help we can put together the money needed to cover these expenses. Thank you for your help!

The GoFundMe team is asking that I add some more information about myself to this story for transparecy purposes. My name is Gustavo Nanclares. I have been a friend and colleague of Osvaldo Pardo for over twelve years at the University of Connecticut (Storrs, CT). I am also the Head of the Department of Literatures, Cultures, and Languages in which Osvaldo worked for the last 20 years. I am originally from Spain and have lived in CT for almost 13 years. As I explained in my original story, Osvaldo passed away unexpectedly on October 30 and unfortunately there is no family in the US to take care of his funeral arrangements, his possessions, including his house, his wonderful library, and whatever other matters that have to be taken care of after his death. His mother lives in Argentina, doesn't speak English, and is an elderly woman who cannot take care of these matters. A number of Osvaldo's friends and myself are trying to do just that for her. The money donated through this campaign will be dedicated entirely to pay for his cremation (paid for two days ago, on November 14), sending the ashes to the mother in Argentina, getting the death certificate and official copies, and other costs associated with closing his estate (attorney, house clean-up before sale, library preparations, and whatever other expenses we have to take care of). In the unlikely event that there were any money left after all these expenses, we would send whatever is left to Adelma, Osvaldo's mother. Thank you.
