Uganda Carpentry Shop for Orphans
Donation protected
Uganda has 3.5 million orphans, out of a total population of 36 million.
45% of the orphans are parentless due to AIDS. Up to 70% become criminals as adults.
Job training immensely improves opportunities for these at-risk youngsters. Woodworking is a highly-employable skill.
Tools are expensive though - especially in rural Uganda, where per capita income is $30-$50 per month.
We are helping two Carpentry Workshops for Orphans in Kyarumba - a small, beautiful, impoverished village near the Ruwenzori “Mountains of the Moon.”
The groups we help are KAAYGO (Kyarumba Anti-AIDS Youth Group) and Alchangel’s Carpentry Workshop.
We're also buying items for “Edward’s Welding Workshop.”
A photo archive of the KAAYGO - previously known as “Eno’s Woodworking Workshop” - can be viewed HERE (all photos by Douglas Cruickshank)
Boys in the carpentry class make ladders, furniture, doors and other items. They purchase the expensive tools in faraway Kampala, 294 kilometers away.
We want to raise $1,000 for tools & electrical supplies.
All donors receive a wooden gift created in the workshop. See photos of gifts, and extended article HERE
You also receive a “Thank You” photograph from the boys themselves.
Please contribute as much as you are able!
